Red Line full-synthetic D6 ATF is a lower viscosity version of D4 ATF, optimized for better fuel efficiency in CAFE testing. Unlike traditional ATF formulations that start with a higher viscosity and degrade over time, Dexron VI requires a starting viscosity of less than 6.4 cSt with a final drop to no less than 5.5 cSt. Red Line D6 maintains a viscosity drop to no less than 6.1 cSt, making it suitable for applications where Dexron III was previously recommended (except for certain manual transmissions).

D6 ATF also offers enhanced gear protection, equivalent to GL-4 gear oil standards. Its balanced frictional characteristics ensure smooth, consistent shifts and extended drain intervals. The superior stability of D6 ATF compared to petroleum-based ATFs allows for high-temperature operation without causing varnish buildup, which can lead to transmission failure.
