Important: Please read all instructions before starting. If possible, install the Ford Bronco roll bar with at least one other person. Take your time — installation typically takes 8–15 hours depending on skill level and tools available.
Installing the 8 Point Family Interior Ford Bronco Interior Bar for 66-77 Broncos
The 8 Point Family Interior Bronco Bar is cut to a general fitting length. Careful measurement and additional trimming are needed to fit it to your Bronco. You can trim the tubes with a torch, grinder, or plasma cutter. Grind the cuts afterward to prevent slag from interfering with a tight fit.
Note: Installation of this roll bar requires welding inside the Bronco. Cover anything you want to protect from sparks. Glass can be damaged by grinder, torch, or welder sparks. Always have a fire extinguisher handy.
1. With the hard top installed, stand up one of the Rear Hoops (A) in the rear of the Bronco. If necessary, trim it so it fits without rubbing the hard top. Consider the Steel Floor Plate (H) that will go underneath. Once the first Rear Hoop is trimmed properly, trim the second to match. When satisfied with fitment, remove the hard top. Always fit using a hard top—if it fits a hard top, it will fit a soft top. Fitting to a soft top will NOT guarantee hard top clearance.
2. Place a 4”x4” Steel Floor Plate (H) under each leg of the Rear Hoop near the tailgate. Fit approximately ¾” from the tailgate or to your preference. Ensure the hoop leg is 90 degrees to the bed. Offset on the Floor Plate if needed for bolt clearance. Center the hoop between the quarter panels, and allow at least ¼” clearance from the quarter panels to permit removal later. Once aligned, tack weld the hoop to the plates.
Repeat this step for the Rear Hoop behind the seats. We suggest placing this hoop close to the front of the wheel well, but adjust as needed for your setup.
3. With both rear hoops in place and tack welded to the floor plates, measure the distance between their tops and trim the Rear Overhead Parallel Bars (F) to fit. Once fitted correctly, tack weld them to the hoops.
Note: You may temporarily tack a scrap bar between the rear hoops to keep them aligned. You can then wait to install the Rear Overhead Parallel Bars until after fitting the Front Bars (B), ensuring perfect alignment between them.
4. Take the Front Bars with 3 bends (B) and trim them to align with the Rear Overhead Parallel Bars. If you followed Step 3's note, fit them to the Rear Hoop behind the seats. Position the Front Bars as desired—note the glove box may not fully open and the e-brake may need to be repositioned. Stand 20–30 feet away from various angles to check visual alignment before final placement. Mounting them too far back may interfere with window cranks.
5. Once the Front Bars are trimmed and placed, position Steel Floor Plates under their legs, leaving space to remove the bar later. Tack weld the plates to the bars and the bars to the Rear Hoop behind the seats. If you followed Step 3's note, you can now install the Rear Overhead Parallel Bars in line with the Front Bars.
6. Fit the 49" Front Overhead Crossbar (D) between the Front Bars. Position it far enough back to avoid interference with the windshield wiper motor and linkage. Consider extra clearance for a wiper motor cover. Confirm the doors and upper frames close properly. Once trimmed, tack weld it. Repeat for the 51" Dash Cross Bar (C).
7. Install the Front Overhead Parallel Bars (E) between the Front Overhead Crossbar (D) and the Rear Hoop behind the seats (A). We typically space them 8½” apart, but adjust to your preference. Once squared and trimmed, tack weld them in place.
8. Fit the two Leg Brace Bars (G) from the Rear Hoop behind the seats to the top of the wheel well. Position them to your liking, mounting Steel Floor Plates underneath. Ensure clearance from the body. Once positioned, tack weld them.
9. Reinstall the hard top and check all clearances carefully.
10. Remove the hard top and fully weld the bar assembly so it can be removed as one piece. Don’t forget to weld the lower pads.
11. Drill mounting holes for the plates. Check underneath to avoid seams, the fuel tank, and the filler hose.
12. Remove the Interior Bar assembly from the Bronco. Fully weld all seams, then finish with primer and paint or powder coat.
Note: A standard bikini top will not fit these bars. We offer a Family Bikini Kit that does fit this roll bar (Part #2173).
E-Brake Fitment Instructions
1. Remove the mounting bolt securing the e-brake to the dash. Leave the firewall bolts in place.
2. Pivot the e-brake assembly toward the passenger side to gain pedal clearance.
3. Mark and drill a new hole in the dash. Reinstall the mounting bolt in the new location.
