From Pumping Gas to Preserving History: Tom Wimmer’s 1968 Bronco
Share
A Story Rooted in Medford, Driven by Passion

At TOMS OFFROAD, we believe every Bronco tells a story—and our founder, Tom Wimmer, has had his fair share over the years. But one Bronco’s story stands out, coming full circle in the most unforgettable way.
Tom’s love for Broncos began long before TOMS OFFROAD was founded. In the 1970s, as a teenager working at a local gas station, he regularly filled up a bright red 1968 Bronco Half Cab—unaware that, decades later, that very same Bronco would become his own.
Fast forward to today: Tom is now the third proud owner of that Signal Flare Red beauty—a true barn find that made its way to him through Kris, a former team member at TOMS OFFROAD. Kris had purchased it from the original owner’s family, preserving the Bronco’s strong Medford roots. Fittingly, that original owner would later become a TOMS OFFROAD customer after the company was founded in 1976.
Tom has kept this Bronco as original as possible, honoring its history while ensuring it’s ready for the trail, a weekend cruise, or the local parade. It still wears its factory paint with pride and boasts an authentic interior—including the original front bench seat. Under the hood, a rebuilt 289 engine pairs with an AX-15 transmission, Dana 20 transfer case, and 4.11 limited-slip gears, making it just as capable as it is classic.
“Every time I start it up, I remember where it’s been and where I’ve been.”
– Tom Wimmer
