This sight glass is especially important for Dana 20 transfer cases that have been rotated from their factory mounting angle. Transmission swaps and custom drivetrain installations often rotate the transfer case upward for additional driveshaft clearance or a flatter belly pan. When this occurs, filling through the original fill hole can result in insufficient oil capacity. Installing the sight glass provides a visual reference so the transfer case can be filled to an adequate oil level and helps prevent premature wear caused by insufficient lubrication.
