AOD Automatic Overdrive Conversion Adapter - 1966-77 Ford Bronco

Convert your 1966-1977 Classic Ford Bronco to an AOD automatic overdrive transmission for improved drivability and highway performance. The AOD is a popular overdrive transmission choice, offering smooth shifting and reduced engine RPM at cruising speeds.

The AOD features gear ratios of 2.40:1 in 1st, 1.47:1 in 2nd, 1:1 in 3rd, and a 33 percent overdrive in 4th gear. The T-style Dana 20 transfer case is the easiest configuration to adapt with this transmission. J-style transfer cases can also be used, though additional shifter modification may be required.

Factory transmission mount sets will require slight modification when installing this kit. Please reference our Tech Advice section for additional installation guidance.

TOMS OFFROAD recommends the #6044 adapter kit for all customers installing a 2WD or 4WD AOD transmission. This kit requires installation of a new tailshaft, which is included. If you have the 4WD AOD and wanting to run this kit, it will require disassembly of the transmission to replace the tailshaft.

If you choose not to replace the tailshaft in a 4WD AOD transmission, the optional #6044A kit is available. This option requires modification of the existing tailshaft and increases overall drivetrain length by more than 3 inches. A custom transmission crossmember will be required, as the TOMS OFFROAD crossmember will not fit due to the increased drivetrain length.
